In Moscow, HSE University’s leadership met with a delegation from Peking University headed by its President, Gong Qihuang. During the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen partnership between the two universities within the framework of the Cross Years of Russian–Chinese Cooperation in Education (2026–2027).

May 24, 2025 The School of Oriental Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of the National Research University Higher School of Economics invites undergraduate, graduate students and young scientists to participate in the XII international scientific student conference “Eastern Perspective”.

A team of students from the Bachelor’s programme ’Asian and African Studies’ at the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs—the only team from Russia—has won first prize at the European Universities Arabic Debating Championship (EUADC) (a QatarDebate regional championship), beating other teams from non-Arabic-speaking countries.

On December 2nd, 2024, “Chinese Forum: Dialogues of the Wise” took place, which was attended by Imamkulieva Elmira Elmanovna, the academic head of the Master's Program “Socio-Economic and Political Development of Modern Asia”.

On November 26, an open lecture by Sergei Dmitriev “Everyday Life in the Tang Dynasty: From Emperor to Street Merchant” was held in the Center of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library.

The summer language school for students of the “Asian and African Studies” program of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at Jilin University of Foreign Languages (JUFL) was held August 6-26. The students immersed themselves in learning the basics of the Chinese language, as well as spent several days in the Russian-Chinese border area, visited the sacred mountain Paektusan (Chinese: Changbaishan) on the border of the PRC and the DPRK and the Jingyuetan National Park Reserve.

The Russia team, represented by the students of the Asian and African Studies program, took part in the international championship in Arabic “Qatar Debate” in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Chaired by Dmitri Bondarenko, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director of the RAS Institute of Africa, and Director of theInternational Centre of Anthropology at the HSEFaculty of Humanities, the Dissertation Council comprises prominent Russian Orientalists and Africanists from HSE University and other leading institutions.

On February 10, 2024, HSE Cultural Center hosted a large-scale celebration of the Eastern New Year, organized by professors of the School of Asian Studies and students of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs.

On December 13, the team of the project “Dialogues about the East” held the fourth lecture of the series on the culture of India with Sofia Karanjia about Indian clothes and textiles.

A new article by Sergey Karaganov, Professor Emeritus, Academic Supervisor of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, was originally published in Russian in a business newspaper “Profile” on June 13, 2023.

The HSE Chinese Student Club at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs School of Asian Studies has completed its 2021/22 season. Its participants and organisers talked to the HSE News Service about how they discuss China’s socio-economic, political, and cultural development as part of the club’s events.

On April 7, the School of Asian Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs hosted a student round-table on the development of Korean society in modern and contemporary times (the second half of the 19th – early 21st centuries).
