Areas of Education

The School offers an undergraduate programme, and after graduation students may continue their education in a variety of postgraduate courses within the HSE, all of which include work on the “Eastern direction”. Graduates of the School can find employment in governmental and public institutions which ensure the defense of Russia's interests in Eastern countries, as well as in research and academic institutions, in higher education and commercial organizations.

Initially we want to specialise in China and Japan, as well as in Middle Eastern countries (Arab studies). In time, we plan to introduce courses on India and South Asia, South-East Asian countries, Korea and Tibet.

SAS has more than 630 students on campus (circa 570 undergraduates and 60 graduates) and circa 100 faculties.

In the future we also plan to launch a Master's course at the school on “Asian and African Studies”, as well as a PhD programme.

The rationale of students' education at the School is a gradual progression from studying the historic and cultural tradition of the East to studying how those traditions manifest themselves in contemporary political, social and economic life, as well as international and intro-Asian interregional relations.
